Youth Engagement Programs

The Council on Chemical Abuse offers several programs that actively engage Berks County youth in prevention causes. These include:

Tobacco Compliance Checks

Engages youth to assist with checks at Berks County stores, to see if their clerks are illegally selling tobacco products to youth under the age of 18. This is a paid position. Learn more.

Tobacco Resistance Unit (TRU)

Youths aged 12 to 18 across Pennsylvania can earn scholarships, build advocacy and leadership skills, and get free swag by participating in this anti-tobacco movement. Learn more

Project Sticker Shock

Organizes high school students to place stickers on beer cases in local stores. The stickers contain a warning: “It is illegal to purchase or provide alcohol to anyone under 21”. Learn more

Pat Ganter Scholarship

The Pat Ganter Scholarship is a $1,000 award available annually to a Berks County High School Senior who is active in substance abuse prevention in their school or community. Each year, scholarships are awarded in May. In 2020, application period closes April 16. Learn more or apply.
