Every September, we celebrate Recovery Month with events and activities that recognize the achievements of individuals who have reclaimed their lives in long-term recovery, and honor the service providers who make recovery possible. In 2023, we have organized a full slate of events that will bring people together to celebrate those in recovery and will also spread awareness that recovery is possible. Chief among these is the Berks Recovery Walk, on Saturday Sept. 9, which will begin this year at the RISE Center at 702 N. 8th St and proceed up Oley Street to 9th Street where the SOS Berks’ newly installed recovery-themed mural will be viewed. Jose, whose story inspired the mural, will speak about his path to recovery and how it is depicted in the artwork. Walkers will then proceed up 9th St. to Washington St., and end at City Park for a recovery celebration that will include live music and a butterfly release.
In addition to that event, the RISE Center is hosting a wide variety of events each week throughout September including Taco Tuesdays, Sundaes on Fridays, game nights, a movie matinee and a Mural Painting session to help paint the SOS Berks 2nd recovery-themed mural. That mural is expected to be completed later this Fall and installed at 11th & Richmond Streets. See all events below.
