The Council on Chemical Abuse’s Prevention Staff spends the summer months visiting camps, youth groups, and recreation programs. They engage participants in fun-filled activities that teach important life lessons about avoiding drugs, alcohol, gambling, vaping and other risky behaviors.
“Our summer programs allow us to have fun with kids while we’re talking to them about serious topics,” explained COCA Prevention Specialist Paige Carroll.
In 2019, the COCA prevention team introduced a social media campaign that fostered kindness. The #cocakindness initiative encouraged participating camps and parks to fill “kindness buckets” with notes about the acts of kindness performed each day. Camp counselors were encouraged to share on social media photos of kids being kind. Read more about our Summer of Kindness.
