COCA is looking forward to a vibrant summer packed with engaging and exciting programs aimed at guiding youth towards making positive choices for a healthy future! This year’s summer prevention program features four distinct sessions focused on: Vaping Education, Identifying and Managing Emotions, Conflict Resolution & Peer Pressure, and Friendships/Bullying. Each session is conducted by COCA prevention specialists and includes inclusive, enjoyable activities that equip youth with the skills to avoid substances and lead healthy lives.
Clearing the Air: Truths about Vaping – This lesson uses a variety of activities to teach youth about harmful health effects, common myths, and the impact of nicotine on the brain and body. Additionally, by analyzing vaping advertisements, youth learn to make informed, healthy decisions by recognizing the deceptive techniques that vaping companies use to entice them into using vaping products.
Bright Feelings, Exploring Emotions – This lesson helps youth to recognize their emotions and feelings and manage them in a healthy way.
Stay Cool: Navigating Conflict and Peer Pressure – This lesson is built to help youth identify conflict and give them the tools to handle it in a positive way. Participants will explore what peer pressure looks like and learn refusal skills to resist negative peer pressure.
Shine Bright: Be a Friend, not a Bully – Through interactive activities, youth will explore the qualities of healthy friendships and develop skills to successfully manage bullying situations.
