About The Future is Prevention

This year’s summer prevention program consists of four different sessions that provide education on brain health, digital safety, healthy friendships, and managing stress. All sessions are led by our prevention specialists and utilize inclusive, enjoyable activities that teach youth the skills needed to avoid substances and lead healthy lives.

Brain Waves: Educates youth on the brain, its different parts, functions, and how it is responsible for the functionality of the entire body. The material and activities help students understand why brain health is important.

Digital Explorers: Becoming Internet Awesome: Youth will learn to navigate digital space with wisdom, kindness and safety through interactive, hands-on and informative activities. They will maneuver through games and fun to enjoy the digital world with responsibility this summer!

Cosmic Connection: Youth will explore the qualities and behaviors of healthy and unhealthy friendships. We will focus on what it means to be a good friend. When discussing qualities of unhealthy friendships we will talk about peer pressure, and will discuss refusal skills to guide youth in handling a peer pressure situation.

Be Present: Youth will learn to define and identify situations that create stress, as well as the thoughts, feelings and behaviors that accompany stressful situations. They will learn healthy stress management skills and the benefits of practicing mindfulness.
