The Elementary Prevention Series consists of three programs for students in grades 1-5. Schools can request the entire series or a single program.
Brain Games: This program educates students on the brain’s parts and functions and the importance of brain health. Students will learn:
- How the brain works and its connections to the rest of the body.
- Different parts of the brain and what each part is responsible for.
- How neurons function in the body.
- Healthy skills for taking care of their overall brain health.
Cosmic Friends: This program will focus on exploring the qualities and behaviors of healthy friendships. Students will learn:
- The behaviors and qualities of good, healthy friendships, and the benefits of bonding with pro-social behaviors.
- The behaviors and qualities of unhealthy friendships
- The meaning of peer pressure
- How to utilize refusal skills in situations involving peer pressure
MedSmart Kids: This program educates children about their bodies and the importance of medication safety. Students will learn:
- About the major parts of the body and their functions.
- How to recognize common symptoms of illness (e.g., fever, cough, pain).
- About medicine and simple steps for self-care (e.g., rest, hydration).
- Why medication should only be taken by the person it’s prescribed for.
- That medications should be stored out of reach and sight.
- The importance of taking medication exactly as prescribed.
- The signs of medication misuse and the importance of seeking help immediately.
