For over 35 years, the Council on Chemical Abuse has been a Berks County resource for information and education on the complex disease of addiction. We offer a variety of prevention educational opportunities for school communities seeking to provide students with the knowledge and skills to resist high-risk behavior as they grow. All programs are available for FREE to Berks County schools.
Below are programs that COCA is offering during the 2019-2020 school year:
Red Ribbon Week
An annual campaign during the last week in October, during which students wear red ribbons to illustrate their dedication to living drug-free.
In addition to the above offerings, our prevention specialists can also provide these Evidence Based Prevention classroom programs:
Project Towards No Drug Abuse– Based on more than two decades of successful research at the University of Southern California, Project TND focuses on factors that predict tobacco, alcohol, and other drug use and problem behaviors. This program targets students ages 14 and up.
Too Good for Drugs – Too Good is a comprehensive family of substance use and violence prevention curricula for students in grades k-12. It is designed to mitigate factors associated with risky behavior and build protection within the child.
Botvin Life Skills Training – This research-validated substance abuse prevention program for middle school students has been proven to reduce the risks of alcohol, tobacco, drug abuse, and violence by targeting the major social and psychological factors that promote the initiation of substance use and other risky behaviors. This comprehensive and exciting program provides adolescents and young teens with the confidence and skills necessary to successfully handle challenging situations.
